Menu *****
Their Asian-style tapas are all encompassing, with 16 choices to date. Save room for the very reasonably priced sushi, available with whole grain rice for even more texture and flavor, or indulge yourself at the lobster bar. More traditional seafood entrees are available, as well as steak (certified Angus Beef), which is seasoned with your choice of Silk’s signature rubs.

Food Quality ****
Much of Silk’s menu dictates it be made to order so you can rest assured your food is fresh.

Food Presentation ****
The restaurant’s sleek outer appearance carries over to its plates. The ahi poke Hawaiian salad, for example, is served in a martini glass and just about everything comes carefully garnished. However, portions are not absurdly small and the food tastes as good as it looks.

Atmosphere ****
Baffling for the ceiling is on order but, for now, the dining room is a bit loud. The overall effect of investing $2 million in décor is slightly pretentious but not uncomfortable. As soon as you figure out how to operate the automatic sensors at the unisex sink area, you’ll find the bathroom’s copper accents and scented liquid soap quite soothing. And if you stop to appreciate all of it, you’ll realize that just about everything at Silk is a custom-crafted work of art, from carbonized bamboo floors to chairs cut from solid pieces of beech to imported silk from Thailand.

Cleanliness *****
Anna and Raymond Hsu didn’t build a $2 million restaurant to have it marred by sloppiness. Every surface is spotless.

Service ***
Three weeks after opening the servers are still finding their rhythm. With management ever-present to iron out any wrinkles, I’m sure things will soon flow more smoothly.

Menu Recommendations:
The wok-fried calamari is delicious, consisting of large pieces of delicate squid mixed with mushrooms and fresh asparagus in a dark broth topped with crispy noodles. From the sushi menu, the Out of Control roll (a generous combination of spicy tuna, avocado and eel), the Golden roll (smoked salmon, mango, tempura flakes and gold) are stellar, as are the hamachi and uni sashimi. You can’t go wrong with the filet mignon entrée and I can vouch that the duck breast is equally tender and tasty.

Overall Rating: ****
I am still in awe of Silk’s superb menu, combining all of the foods I love under one roof. Prices are reasonable enough for frequent dining while its atmosphere easily qualifies for special occasions. Silk satisfies a wide array of palates, from meat and potato fans to sushi lovers. And, somehow, they manage to prepare this wide range of dishes quite well.
