The Savoy Bar & Grill

The Savoy Bar and Grill is located in the Georgian Terrace Hotel where the décor is impeccable, the rooms stunning and the atmosphere all-around sophisticated. Any chef would have to work hard to match the pure artistry that went into the design of this historical treasure. Chef Dominick has quietly undertaken the challenge and the result is delicious. Drawing from his solid Southern upbringing, he is more than capable of translating the hotel’s atmospheric charm and grace to gastronomic pleasure in the dining room.

Menu *****
The new menu is extremely well thought out. It includes a tasteful range of unique appetizers and the entrée choices are paired with creative sides like white bean ragout or the stunning vidalia onion tart. All entrees come with a fresh salad of local field greens.

Food Quality *****
Quality has improved vastly with the new chef in place at the Savoy. There’s no confusing the improved cuisine with the sometimes mass-produced feel of the former menu.

Food Presentation *****
The chef doesn’t try to mask his dishes with overly fanciful presentation but you will be impressed with the civilized portions and his obvious care in their preparation. (Anyone who has worked at Spice knows the importance of appearances!)

Atmosphere ****
The relaxed elegance of the Georgian Terrace is incredibly soothing. The dining room is decorated with ornate woodwork and a calming color scheme of creams and ruddy reds with gold accents, while the terrace treats you to a sophisticated outdoor dining experience in full view of the fabulous Fox Theatre.

Cleanliness *****
Like the entire hotel, the Savoy is immaculate. There’s no telling how much primping and preening goes on behind the scenes but the effect is an array of spotless tables without a crumb to be found on the upholstered chairs or lush carpeting.

Service ****
It’s always charming to find a wait staff that includes some old timers, and very appropriate here at the Savoy. There are plenty of young servers as well, and all are attentive and friendly.

Menu recommendations:
The salty, earthy flavors of the escargot, braised in a cabernet reduction and mixed with mushrooms and big, crunchy croutons, will make your mouth hum. The sea scallops are deliciously tender and guaranteed to please with just a slight searing on the outside to caramelize the subtle seasoning. Or choose the filet mignon, which rivals anything you’ll find at Atlanta’s finest steak houses. And, whatever it takes to get a slice of the vidalia onion tart -- do it. Made with goat cheese and lots of sweet, caramelized onions, the tart pays homage to the locally grown onions while comforting you with its rich, flaky crust. For dessert, even if you think you’re tired of the same old crème brulee, try it here. It may look like all the others with its thin, crisp, sugary top but inside you’ll discover an amazingly delicious custard.

Overall rating *****
After a thorough update of the menu and a change in chefs, The Savoy Bar and Grill has gone from good to great. All dishes are crafted with the freshest and highest quality ingredients. You will find a tempting list of sophisticated appetizers and entrees, perfect for a pre-show dinner or any special occasion. The Savoy now lives up to the magnificence and class of its prestigious landlord, the Georgian Terrace.
