MENU: ****1/2
The menu reads like a combination of a Hawaiian, Asian and Thai chef’s recipe collection. There are several items you may have heard of, but never quite like this. The inventive recipes and flavors make the menu so inviting. There is plenty of fresh steak and seafood.

FOOD QUALITY: *****
Roy’s prides itself on using the freshest ingredients in every dish. Whether you visit Roy’s in Atlanta or the original restaurant in Hawaii, you will be served the highest quality seafood, beef, vegetables, herbs and spices.

FOOD PRESENTATION: *****
Fun is the key to Roy’s style. Each plate is garnished and served to entice your eyes and your taste buds.

ATMOSPHERE: ****1/2
The decor is crisp with clean-cut lines and contemporary design. The honey-colored wood is accented by linen and other natural fabrics to provide a vacation getaway sort of feel. The bar area is well lit yet dim and very romantic. The dining room is large and open, and most tables have a view of the open kitchen. Roy’s boasts an upscale style a fun attitude.

CLEANLINESS: *****
The restaurant is pristine. From the crowded bar area to the active dining room, everything is spotless. The bathrooms are spick and span.

SERVICE: *****
Servers are attentive yet fun and friendly. Bartenders and servers are more than willing to explain the wine list and give suggestions about dinner entrees. The manager often walks around, stopping by various tables to check in with guests and thank them for coming.

MENU RECOMMENDATIONS:
The island-style fried calamari is spicy and bold, served with a lime-scented Thai dipping sauce. The canoe appetizer is popular and includes shrimp sticks, Szechwan baby back ribs, blackened Ahi tuna, a shiitake beef spring roll, edamame and half-moon shellfish potstickers. Be sure to try the Hawaii Kai crispy crab cakes and Thai rice-dusted tiger shrimp. The freshness and flavor of the tomato, mozzarella and onion salad is outstanding.

The Mixed Plates dish comes with blackened island Ahi tuna, macadamia nut-crusted Hawaiian Mahi Mahi and garlic-rubbed filet mignon with seared Walleye. The presentation on both dishes is flamboyant and fun. Every bite melts in your mouth and bursts with flavor. You might also try the lemongrass-crusted Shutome, cilantro-crusted sea scallops or the apricot glazed venison tenderloin. Order the signature melting hot dark chocolate soufflé with no regrets.

OVERALL : ****1/2
Roy’s is a welcome change from the normal steak and seafood found in Atlanta restaurants. The dishes are prepared with unique ingredients and abundant flavors.
