| NAVA ~ upscale casual ***** 3060 Peachtree Road Atlanta, GA 30305 (404) 240-1984 This cozy Southwest-inspired restaurant offers an authentic desert feel inside and, weather permitting, an intown oasis outside. The outdoor dining area is a perfect spot for enjoying the balmy Atlanta weather while indulging in unique cuisine. MENU: ***** The menu may be inspired by Southwestern flavors, but it is the unique taste and appearance of the food that makes it unforgettable. Lobster Tacos anyone? The menu reads like a list of ingredients from a culinary textbook. The chef, Doug Turbush, uses his talent to blow your taste buds away with his unique combinations. The food is rich and bold, bursting with cilantro, lime and other classic Southwestern flavors. FOOD QUALITY: ***** The ingredients used are nothing less than the best. The freshest seafood, beef, vegetables and herbs are used in every dish. FOOD PRESENTATION: ***** It is amazing what artistry can be found in potatoes, tortillas, sauces and a few corn chips. The presentation masterpieces from Nava are fantastic. You will find steaks of fish piled high atop mashed potatoes with curvy tortillas raised vertically from the entree. The presentations are as fun to look at as the food is delicious. ATMOSPHERE: ***** Nava invites you to enjoy yourself from the moment you enter the oversized wooden doors. The decor is rustic yet warms like an adobe. The oversized booths with pillows and fabric hanging from the walls give this space depth. The ceilings are lined with large wooden beams and accented by authentic iron accessories. CLEANLINESS: ***** The latest trend in cleanliness is to leave some part of the kitchen exposed. The floors, silverware and bathroom are clean, well-maintained and polished. SERVICE: ***** Nothing short of spectacular. Everyone, from the hostess to the appetizer chef, greets guests with smiles and pays close attention to details. MENU RECOMMENDATIONS: If you make a reservation at Nava, treat yourself and arrive early for a drink at the bar. Try the Prickly Pear Margarita, a house specialty. The starter menu offers a variety of soups and salads as well as other unique creations. Start with the pork carnita and Portobello mushroom quesadilla with tequila sour cream. The barbecued rabbit tostadas, iron skillet mussels, rock shrimp enchiladas and Sonoma Jack fritters are all worthy choices as well. For an entree, try cowboy-cut beef tenderloin served with garlic corn jus and roasted pepper polenta fries. To round out the menu, Nava also offers key lime chicken, mint-rubbed lamb rack, salmon, scallops and even a vegetable platter. For dessert, order the banana enchilada with warm caramel sauce or try the raspberry crème brulee. Leave room for any of these desserts, even if the Suncorn-crusted snapper ends up in a to-go box. OVERALL RATING: ***** Nava is truly one of Atlantas best, offering delicious, unique food served in a friendly, lively atmosphere. review by Nikki Brown |
