HORSERADISH GRILL ~ upscale casual
****1/2
4320 Powers Ferry Road
Atlanta, GA 30342
(404) 255-7277

MENU: ****
The Horseradish Grill is out to prove that Southern cooking is not just fried chicken and greens. The fried green tomatoes and turnpike grits may have Southern roots, but the style and grace of the preparation is of a different caliber. At the core of the menu are truly classic recipes, such as blackened rib eye steak, BBQ duck and, of course, skillet fried chicken.

FOOD QUALITY: *****
This restaurant stays true to its roots. Many of the fresh fruits and vegetables are grown in the garden behind the restaurant. Anything not grown out back are found locally at markets and farms. Everything is always fresh and in season.

FOOD PRESENTATION: ****
The theory at Horseradish Grill is simple: Prepare quality products in a simple fashion to maintain the purity and integrity of the food itself. The plates have an uncomplicated quality.

ATMOSPHERE: ****
The rustic and cozy dining area invites you to relax and enjoy your visit. The sultry sound of Billie Holiday playing in the background and the homemade biscuits on your table will help slow down your fast-paced day. The main dining area is well lit with raised ceilings and has a distinct stable feel.

CLEANLINESS: *****
The restaurant may feel like an old barn, but the surroundings are nothing short of immaculate.

SERVICE: *****
The service is friendly and relaxed, yet attentive. The hostess is welcoming and gracious, and the servers are helpful in explaining the menu.

MENU RECOMMENDATIONS:
The innovative menu could make a Yankee a fan of Southern cooking. The fried green tomatoes with melted goat cheese, remoulade and pecans are a must-have. The North Carolina-style BBQ served over a cornmeal pancake with coleslaw is one of a kind. The jumbo gulf shrimp and Logan turnpike grits are also worthy of praise.

The pecan-crusted Georgia Mountain trout covered in an orange-vanilla sauce is outstanding, served with the creamiest whipped potatoes in the city. Try the bourbon-marinated pork tenderloin, seared venison medallions, rosemary-grilled lamb chops and the award-winning skillet fried chicken. The farm fresh vegetable platter gives you exactly what you’d expect from Southern veggies. All desserts are made in house. Don’t pass up the Kentucky oatmeal spice cake or the chocolate layer cake.

OVERALL RATING: ****1/2
The Horseradish Grill is sure to please with their laid-back style and subtle grace. The relaxed atmosphere and original cuisine promise a loyal following.
