The Cafe at East Andrews ~
upscale casual *****
56 East Andrews Drive, Suite #10
Atlanta, GA 30305
(404) 869-1132

Menu *****
From small plate appetizers to medium plates of salad and pasta to main entrees, you can choose to eat light or go all the way with a four course meal. Choices are fairly balanced with lots of wonderful seafood options, a pizza of the day, Caesar salad and the requisite steak and chicken. There are no entrées for true vegetarians but many of the medium plates constitute a meal, and I’d be willing to bet the chef would take care of you upon request.

Food Quality *****
The chef meticulously monitors quality, pulling dishes from the menu if the ingredients aren’t up to his high standards that day.

Food Presentation *****
The bread arrives in its own small loaf pan, reinforcing a sense of warmth. Other items are served more formally on oversized, white dishes. Big square plates and giant bowls leave the food to wow you with color and style. The effect is very clean and elegant.

Atmosphere *****
East Andrews is designed as an all-encompassing hospitality destination. The indoor/outdoor wine bar connects a sophisticated dining room to the comfy lounge area complete with deep leather couches. Another, separate bar with its own limited menu is also on the ground floor while the expansive live music venue is just up the curving wrought iron staircase. A state-of-the-art sound system ensures the right mood for each distinct space and the European-inspired décor brings it all together.

Cleanliness *****
From the wine bar to the dining room to the nearby bathrooms, the place is spotless.

Service *****
The service at East Andrews rivals the décor in quality and appeal. Our waiter explained the evening’s wine special with aplomb, easily answering questions of the uninitiated without condescension. Well schooled on their newly expanded menu, he was ready with explanations and suggestions.

Menu Recommendations:
My favorite small plate was the basil wrapped black tiger shrimp. The chef’s signature dish among the medium plates is the sweet potato ravioli, an al dente ravioli coated with a buttery light truffle glaze and soft warm sweet potato filling. The Chilean sea bass earns its reputation as house favorite and the roasted chicken plate is unlike anything you’ve ever seen or tasted. De-boned, except for the wings, the breast is wrapped around itself with a mushroom duxelles stuffing inside. Though an unlikely candidate for best dessert, the lemon tart is a must.

Overall: *****
It’s difficult to describe East Andrews Café without sounding like a gushing groupie. I still can’t get over how relaxing the dining area was on a busy Thursday night at this popular bar, and I certainly didn’t expect such amazing food at reasonable prices. If they keep this up, it won’t remain calm for long.

The basil wrapped Tiger shrimp and the Chilean Sea Bass are just two out of many of this writer's favorite and highly recommended dishes at the lively Buckhead restaurant.
