| Jeff Gomez, Executive Chef by Christine Woodhouse Jeff Gomez had worked in professional kitchens under highly acclaimed chefs for over 10 years when his friend and neighbor, Michel Arnette came to him with the concept for Haven. As a resident of Brookhaven, Michel saw an ideal opportunity for a casual but high-end neighborhood eatery. And he knew Gomez would be the perfect chef to help complete this vision. Gomez grew up in Virginia Beach with an innate love of cooking, first encouraged by his Grandmother Lyla. He moved south to perfect his talent at The Art Institute of Atlanta, and fell hard for the regions traditional fare. Gomez began his career as a sous chef with the Buckhead Life Restaurant Group, which led to work with well-known, local chefs Dan O'Leary, Peter Kaiser, and Paul Albrect. Gomez served as sous chef at Buckhead Diner, Nava, and Panos and Pauls until earning a promotion to Executive Chef at Corner Café. There he became the youngest executive chef in Buckhead Life Restaurant Group, managing a kitchen staff of 15 people. Presently (as of 6/05), Gomez is at Haven. This young talent continues to wow patrons with what he calls "Creative New American" cuisine. Given free reign over the menu, Gomez presents creative combinations of American cuisine with just enough Southern influence. He also designed the kitchen himself, conceiving it as the heart of the restaurant with a view into the culinary action. His mentor, Chef Paul Albrect of Spice, dines at Haven often, offering visible testament to the quality and supremacy of Gomez's work. |
