Craig Richards
Executive Chef, La Tavola Trattoria

Craig Richards brings eight years of culinary experience and a vast knowledge of the Italian kitchen to La Tavola Trattoria, the neighborhood Italian favorite from Fifth Group Restaurants. Richards worked most recently as executive chef for Lidia’s Pittsburgh, where he was responsible for preparing regional Italian food and developing seasonal menus with Lidia Bastianich, acclaimed restaurateur and renowned first lady of Italian cuisine.

Richards began his career as a graphic editor for Allen Press after graduating from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Arts in English. After a brief stint as graphic editor, Richards quickly found his true calling and moved into the culinary field as a line cook at Pachamama’s Restaurant in Kansas.

From there, he took the culinary world by storm at Lidia’s Kansas City by working his way up from senior line cook to sous chef before moving to Pittsburgh to assist in the opening of another Lidia’s. Once named executive chef of Lidia’s Pittsburgh in September 2001, Richards began appearing as a guest chef at numerous local events such as the Pittsburgh Wine and Dine Festival, In the Kitchen Cooking Classes and Penn’s Corner Farm Alliance Farmer’s Market.

Richards also dedicates his time to numerous philanthropies, making appearances at the Pittsburgh March of Dimes Star Chefs Event and Lupus Foundation events. He is responsible for coordinating, hosting and speaking at the 2003 and 2004 Farmer-to-Chef Conferences, as well as speaking at the Pennsylvania Association of Sustainable Agriculture Conference.

In his spare time, Richards enjoys playing acoustic guitar and spending time with his wife, Staci. They are expecting their first child in November.
