| RIEDEL INTRODUCES OFFICIAL TEQUILA GLASS New York, NY, April 12, 2002 Riedel Crystal is introducing the Official Tequila Glass, designed to highlight the finest characteristics of Mexicos national drink. The glass, designated the Official Tequila Glass by the Consejo Regulador del Tequila, was designed to enhance Mexicos finest Reposados, Añejos and Reservas de Casa Tequilas. The elegant slender glass is 8_ high, with a capacity of 6_ ounces, and, as part of the Riedel Ouverture collection (Ouverture Tequila 408/18), will retail for $9.90. The glass has a tall stem, meant to lift fine Tequila to the level it deserves, to accord it the appreciation and respect of which it is worthy, and comes packed four to a black box decorated with drawings of the blue agave plant. The Tequila glass is being introduced simultaneously in the U.S. and Mexico, officially in Mexico City on March 15 at the Austrian Embassy, then in Guadalajara City in the State of Jalisco and on March 19 at celebrations with the Consejo Regulador del Tequila and the Tequila Chamber of Commerce. The glass was designed at two tasting workshops led by Georg Riedel and attended by over two dozen Tequila producers, officials and cognoscenti, using twelve 100% Agave Tequila Reposado, aged eight months, including Don Julios Tres Magueyes and Casa Nobles Cofradia. Each workshop consisted of four rounds of tastings, during which three to four glasses were eliminated at each. The panel at the first workshop*, in Tequila, taste-tested 12 glasses pre-selected by Georg Riedel based on his knowledge of glassware properties and tequila. Because the panel did not reach a unanimous decision, another workshop was necessary. This became possible when the Governor of Jalisco led an official tour, including leading Tequiliers, to Europe. On a Sunday, the group flew from Spain to Kufstein, Austria, home of Riedel Crystal. Based on notes from the first tasting, Riedel presented 13 glasses at a second two-hour workshop where 12 glasses were eliminated. The remaining one, the 13th, which had received the most votes at the first workshop, was the unanimous winner. Mr. Riedel presented the final glass to the Tequila producers on December 12, 2001 at the Quinta Real Hotel, where the glass was christened. Riedel Crystal is known for designing the most finely tuned instruments for every level of wine and spirits sophistication as well as the finest glasses in all price categories.
