Atlanta’s own celebrity chefs participated in Atlanta's first bi-annual "Iron Chef "competition!

Atlanta, GA. -- Two of Atlanta’s celebrity chefs, from some of the top restaurants in the city, competed for the title of Atlanta Iron Chef at the Atlanta Food Experience on Sunday, August 24 at 1 p.m. in the Fabulous Fox Theater’s Egyptian Ballroom. Chefs Ian Winslade of Bluepoint and David Tarrin of Roy’s, competed against each other in this exciting event, complete with the challenge of a secret ingredient, which turned out to be 100 pounds of various mushrooms, generously provided by Whole Foods Market. Each chef had 60 minutes to cook three dishes, each containing mushrooms as a common ingredient. .

Well-known Atlanta cheese expert Raymond Hook and Whole Foods Market Catering Director, J.P. Ellenberger both MC'd the event. The chefs’ creations were judged by Virginia Willis, well-known caterer, teacher, author, editor and producer of Turner South's new food show, Home Plate; Chef Paul Albrecht, executive chef of Spice retaurant; Nik Mavromatis, sous chef of Woodfire Grill, and wife Sarah Mavromatis, local wine distributor. The chefs’ entries were judged on taste, presentation and originality. The winning chef received a free night's stay and dinner for two at the Georgia Terrace.

“It was a pleasure to bring these two talented chefs together for this first bi-anual Iron Chef competition,” said Miles Neiman, owner of AtlantasFinestDining.com, who produced the event. “AtlantasFinestDining.com is all about bringing Atlanta’s food lovers and chefs together and this competition is a great way to do it, while benefiting local charity organizations in the process.”

“I enjoyed participating in this competition very much,” said winning Chef David Tarrin of Roy’s. “While I was certainly out to win, it was fun to see what my colleague Ian and I could do under time and ingredient pressures like this. I learned a lot from watching Ian cook!”

The Atlanta Iron Chef competition took place as part of the Atlanta Food Experience, a social engagement highlighting Atlanta’s great restaurants and benefiting a number of Atlanta’s charities, including the Starlight Children’s Foundation, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, The Atlanta Community Food Bank and Georgia Public Broadcasting.

Attendees enjoyed tasting samples from Atlanta’s finest restaurants and cooking demonstrations from some of Atlanta’s top chef’s.
