Coach Carter and Cheyenne Grille and
Sports Bar

Coach Carter, produced by MTV films, debuted at the top of the box office charts after its January 14 release. The movie tells a compelling story about urban youth and their will to succeed – both on and off the basketball court. Based on true-life events which took place in 1999, Coach Carter tells the story of a high school basketball team with a great deal of potential that has gone unrecognized until coach Ken Carter (played by Samuel L. Jackson) takes the reigns and gets the team into shape.

On the day of Carter’s arrival, the team is forced to sign contracts stating they will maintain at least a 2.3 grade point average, attend all classes on a regular basis, sit in the front row of those classes and wear ties on game days. To enforce this rule, Coach Carter has the school’s teachers send him progress reports. When Carter discovers that his team isn’t performing academically, he chains the doors of the coliseum and forces the team to forfeit any games until everyone on the team has met the grade requirement. His rules are much to the dismay of parents and the school principal, who try to convince Carter that their children deserve to play basketball regardless of their grades. The team eventually rallies behind their leader, getting their grades up in time to continue their season without suffering the loss of their playoff contention. Through Carter’s guidance, the team goes from an utterly poor previous season to a season with only two losses (which happen to be forfeitures).

The whole movie is packed with action, and the games are played out well on camera, making the basketball moves just as much of a crowd pleaser as the plot. Likewise, Cheyenne Grille and Sports Bar, located in Buckhead’s Peachtree Battle shopping center, has plenty of crowd-pleasing action to complement its menu. Patrons can sit inside or outside and enjoy their game of choice on any one of the restaurant’s 41 televisions or four big screens. Games are picked up by satellite reception - so any game that’s playing at the time can be seen live.

My visit to Cheyenne Grille took place during an Atlanta Falcons game, and the entire restaurant seemed to be filled with Falcons fans. After every touchdown, a roar would erupt from the patrons around me as if they were in the stadium. After all, who wouldn’t feel like they were in the Georgia Dome when the TV is so large?

While the endless number of televisions will keep your eyes and ears satisfied, Cheyenne Grille will keep your nose and your taste buds satisfied with its large, delectable menu. In fact, Cheyenne Grille has enough food to feed several basketball teams at once. The restaurant can hold up to 75 guests seated or 150 guests standing without losing breathing room.
The menu is split into three sections: appetizers are “pre-game warm-ups” and contain items such as artichoke dip and a buffalo shrimp basket; sandwiches are “all stars” and include half-pound Black Angus burgers cooked any way you like them, as well as philly cheese steak and deli sandwiches; and entrées are “the main event” and include items such as Tiger’s rib-eye, fresh Atlantic salmon, and grilled chicken breast. Of course, Coach Carter taught his players that they can’t win the game single handed, and Cheyenne Grille works by the same principle. That’s why the restaurant includes your choice of “teammates,” or sides, with every sandwich or entrée. Sides include items like fries, baked potato or fresh veggies.

Every member of the restaurant staff is attentive and treats each customer with a smile. Customers can count on Cheyenne Grille as an ideal locale for getting away from the stress of life to enjoy their favorite food, drinks and sports.

Cheyenne Grille and Sports Bar is located at 2391 Peachtree Road in the Peachtree Battle shopping center and is open Sunday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 am.
