| HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS AND THE BOOM BOOM ROOM How to columns are priceless. We all need advice, especially about our love lives. How to meet the man/woman of your dreams; How to snag the cute co-worker at the water cooler; How to make them fall head over heels. In Paramounts latest big-screen flick, Kate Hudson tells us something many of us already know too well: How to Lose a guy in 10 Days. This movie is all about the game the dating game, that is. And while the basis of the movie touches on the donts of dating, Hudson and Matthew McConaughey spark up quite a few dos as well. The game starts when Composure magazine How to writer Andie Anderson (Hudson) receives an assignment to write How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. She has to meet a guy, start dating him and then drive him away in ten days by doing all the crazy things women do to scare guys off. While Andie and her friends are planning their devious attack on an unsuspecting male victim at an after-work singles mingling, advertising executive Benjamin Barry (McConaughey) is working up a plan of his own. In an attempt to win a big diamond account at his firm, Ben bets his boss that he can meet a girl and make her fall in love with him in just ten days. Of course, in the manner of great Hollywood romances, Andie and Ben become each others bet, and, in the process, find they cannot live without each other. Andies how to list becomes the comic obsession of her friends, as her antics create one crazy scenario after another. From a furry love child and scary PhotoShop-produced pictures of their future children to matching Burberry clothing and a dying fern, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is sure to stir up some repressed memories of outrageous ex-boyfriends and girlfriends. Newly inspired to test my luck in the game of love, I head over to Atlantas hottest new nightlife destination: the Boom Boom Room. Dripping with tropical flavor, Boom Boom Room is a one-of-a-kind, retro Polynesian-style tiki bar. Complete with bamboo walls and large, brightly colored flowers, the originality of the atmosphere, live entertainment and hula dancing make for a non-stop good time for everyone. While it has only been open a short time, Boom Boom Room is already known for its outrageous and tasty drink selection. Feeling the necessity to investigate this claim thoroughly, I sample a few juicy tropical creations. Spotting no ravishingly handsome Matthew McConaughey look-a-likes at the bar (yet), I opt for the Latin Lover ($10) tropical drink to get the evening moving. The fruity blend of dark and banana rums, Chambord, coconut, bananas and pineapple juices makes me fantasize about sand between my toes and crystal blue oceans. The raspberry mojito is another delicious concoction. A familiar Cuban classic with a fruity twist, it combines Bacardi rum, lime juice and mint for a little slice of the islands right in midtown Atlanta. While my night eventually ends with no new dating prospects in sight, I am not at all disappointed. With a full-service bar located on each level, this tiki bar accommodates 200 people and features a VIP section on the second floor. Patio seating consists of picnic tables, while an upstairs balcony area is being converted into a deck. Located at 1140 Crescent Avenue in midtown, Boom Boom Room is open Monday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Visit their Web site at www.metrocafes.com for more information. |
